What is your immunization schedule?
<< Back to Common Questions
We follow the standard immunization schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, although this schedule does allow for some flexibility and we will often tailor the schedule to the individual needs of the child.
At this time, all children entering grade school should receive:
- 3 doses of Hepatits B*
- 5 doses of DTaP (Diptheria, Tetanus, and acellular Pertussis)*
- 3-4 doses of Hib (Hemophilus influenza B)*
- 4 doses of Prevnar (strep pneumococcus)*
- 4 doses of IPV (Polio)*
- 2 doses of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)*
- 2 doses of Varivax (varicella, or chicken pox)*
*Many of these immunizations now come in various combinations to reduce the number of sticks a child must receive.
All children entering 6th grade should have received the above as well as:
- 1 dose of Menactra (meningococcal meningitis)
- 1 dose of Adolescent TdaP (Tetanus, Diptheria and acellular Pertussis booster)
We also recommend:
- 3 doses of Rotateq (Rotavirus, given orally)
- 2 doses of Hepatitis A
- 3 doses of Gardasil (Human Papilloma Virus, for females)
- Annual Influenza for every child over 6 months of age
A typical schedule at North Star Pediatrics for a healthy term infant is as follows:
- Birth: Hepatitis B #1
- 1 month: Hepatitis B #2
- 2 months: Hepatitis B #2 if not previously given, Pentacel (DTaP/Hib/IPV) #1, Prevnar #1, Rotateq #1
- 4 months: Pentacel #2, Prevnar #2, Rotateq #2
- 6 months: Pentacel #3, Prevnar #3, Rotateq #3
- 9 months: Hepatitis #3
- 12 months: MMR #1, Varivax #1, Hepatitis A #1
- 15 months: DTaP #4, Prevnar #4, Hib #4
- 18 months: Hepatitis B #3 if not previously given, Hepatitis A #2
- 4-6 years: MMR #2, Varivax #2, IPV #4, DTaP #5
- 10-11 years: Menactra, Adolescent TdaP
- 12+ years: Gardasil series
